Description
Community Mobilization in Crisis (CMIC) is a University of Ottawa initiative that brings together researchers, practitioners, and community partners to examine how communities organize and respond in times of crisis. I was responsible for both the branding and the design of a fully functional Learning Management System (LMS) website, creating a cohesive visual and digital identity for this collaborative academic project.
The branding was inspired by the team’s Islamic roots and draws heavily from Arabic art and design traditions. The logo incorporates geometric motifs and symmetrical forms that echo classic Islamic patterns, paired with a modern, humanist typeface to ensure clarity and accessibility. The result is a visual identity that bridges cultural heritage and contemporary design, reflecting the project’s values of resilience, solidarity, and inclusivity.
The bilingual WordPress website functions as a full LMS platform, allowing users to register, access educational modules, track progress, and download resources. The design prioritizes accessibility, intuitive navigation, and responsive layout, making it easy for learners and community partners to engage with the content across all devices. The CMS backend was also structured for easy updates and content management by the project team.
This project reflects a complete design journey—from culturally grounded branding to the development of a user-friendly educational platform—built to support learning, engagement, and community empowerment.
